Tapas Mal joins Chemistry Department as NMR Facility Director

The Chemistry Department is very pleased to welcome Tapas Mal as the new NMR Facility Director. Tapas most recently came from Ohio State University where he played an integral part in their massive improvement of the NMR facilities as the Associate Director of the Campus Chemical Instrument Center. Tapas also has extensive industrial experience from his time at Pfizer, Wyeth and AstraZeneca. Tapas received his D. Phil. in 1998 from the University of Oxford designing and implementing NMR strategies to study hydrogen bonding in proteins, and then completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Ontario Cancer Institute, where he continued developing NMR strategies to study biologically important proteins. Tapas brings a wealth of NMR experience ranging in applications in chemistry, biology, food science, geology, medical sciences and micro imaging. Under Tapas' leadership, the NMR facility will continue to improve and expand its capabilities.
