We are seeking a summer intern to serve as a Fuel Chemist in the Fuels and Fuel Systems Branch located within the Naval Air Warfare Center - Aircraft Division at Naval Air Station Patuxent River.

As a summer intern, the individual will begin to develop:

  • The knowledge of the chemical and physical properties of aviation and maritime fuels
  • The knowledge of fuels composition, additive packages, and potential contaminants
  • The skills to conduct specification, fit-for-purpose, advanced analytical testing for Navy tactical fuels
  • The ability to analyze test results and communicate their impact on hardware operation and performance
  • The ability to quickly develop solutions to complex problems in order to provide real time fleet support

To begin the application process for the internship, we are also asking that you email the Fuels and Fuel Systems Branch Head (Michael Peretich, a copy of your resume and transcripts (unofficial transcripts are acceptable).

Resume and transcripts must be submitted to the Branch Head by April 15, 2019 to be considered for the internship however they will be reviewed and evaluated on a rolling basis so you are encouraged to submit them as soon as possible.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Be a currently enrolled student pursuing a degree in chemistry at an accredited institution of higher education
  • Have a minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Be at least 18 years of age at the time of application 
  • Be a U.S. citizen


  • Rising Junior with interest in Organic and/or Analytical Chemistry
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • The ability to work in a team environment

If selected for further consideration, you will be asked participate in one or two phone interviews before our selection is made.  We anticipate making a selection no later than April 26.
